Editorial

On a day when Australia could get another rate hike how many federal politicians will be at the Melbourne Cup? It’s a test to see who’s the most delusional!

Well as Victoria enjoys a public holiday for the race that stops the nation the RBA are possibly about to spoil the party. The big question today apart from which MP’s are at the Cup is will interest rates go up for the 17th time under the incompetent eye of the Albanese government? It remains to be seen and while it’s become a bit of a 60/40 yes no split the RBA have made it very clear they’re not in the mood to deal with Albo trying to pin the blame on them for high inflation and rates. With Albo away at yet another pointless leader convention it will be left to Jim Chalmers to either take the kudos of rates staying on hold or the wrap for them going up…again. Good luck to all of us today but I suspect no one is picking a winner today.

Fresh from attending the immigration protest in the Melbourne’s CBD over the weekend, the One Nation cohort of the anti vax conspiracy theorists, Liberal Party reject Colleen Harkin and party leader Pauline Hanson were out and about yesterday showing how they’d track government spending via an iPad if they were elected in the November election…One Nation didn’t really provide any other details about how their iPad counting thingo really worked, but Australia fuck yeah! Ban the immigrants! Jacqui Lambie has a prolapsed vagina and Australia fuck yeah! And no one has told us yet why Pickering wears his cap over his ears…ugh, it’s all slightly annoying from one nation really.

Remember when Victoria in particular was screaming out for a third party that could offer some common sense? We ended up with the Victorians party which ultimately failed, but now? Now we have One Nation and while they’ll unquestionably get votes they’ve lost their chance because instead of going with serious people they went with a bunch of liberal party rejects and anti Vax conspiracy theorists. This election is the Libs to lose and as for Pickering and his lot, we hear Clive Palmer might be looking for nutbags at the next federal election.

What was Anthony Carbine doing trying to run a lottery with questions for One Nation and the Libs attached? Carbine dropped most of the lotto balls as he tried to explain what he was doing but failed miserably. Who tells MP’s these promo stunts are a good idea?! They’re just not! It was the same when federal Liberal MP Tim Wilson sang the Billy Joel song ‘we can’t start the fire’ to different lyrics that implied Albo and Chalmers were basically incompetent. The song was dreadful and can someone please tell these muppets to STOPPPPP!

With Albo is the Caribbean for the pointless world leader conference the Aussie embarrassment, sorry PM will be having a meeting with UK PM Andrew Burnham about backpackers in Australia. Any visa holder (except the UK ones) have to complete farm work in regional areas to get a third visa. With immigration now a key issue it appears UK backpackers look set to have to do the farm work, which is fair enough but all is not well in the land of the irrelevant global leader. While it’s fair enough for backpackers having to do farm work Burnham does think so, but what will it mean for farm hands? Less people than ever before, but we’re not sure Albo is capable of demanding the UK toe the line.

The midterms in the US are upon us and away, we….go! It appears likely the Democrats win back the house but this is Trumps town and while he can’t be controlled by many he could be a dreadful dead weight for not only the republicans but also for the Democrats. Time will tell but it’s not looking for Trump.

And finally as the fake, pissed and narcissistic take to the stands at Flemington Robbie Williams is here to entertain the maddening crowds. Robbie is still a great but as much as he can still pull a crowd and has lots of money isn’t it time he realised crass Dad jokes aren’t really that funny? The one about mounting yards and his former life is case in point…each to his own but maybe it’s time Robbie, dare I say, grew up? Or maybe he likes being surrounded by people who aren’t really sure who he is…
