Well today is the day. Today is when Tony Burka announces his and Labor’s immigration policy. What will it hold instore? Well if you believe what the media says it’ll be cutting numbers without any impact to numbers! And if you believe that I have the lotto numbers for Saturday night! Migration is shaping up as a major political issue and while we unquestionably need to cut numbers we actually need a sensible approach to migration. If we go all guns blazing and shut the front door to Australia we will damage the economy and those industries that rely on students, back packers and skilled workers. Will Albo and Burka get it all right? Good god no, so it’s all going to get worse before it gets any better.

With all the controversy around comments made by Pauline Hanson over the last few months that have been dragged up by both side of the political divide Hanson went to ground yesterday. Not surprising really but One Nation did name a whole raft of candidates for the upcoming state election. Can any of them win? Yes I’m sure they can, but it’s still the Libs to lose.

Lord Reece of Melbourne is on a collision course with Mr Integrity. Carroll and his lot of basically said begging is all good now in the Melbourne CBD. Reece doesn’t agree with the government re their stance on begging and is now going head to head with the government he helped elect.

Karl’s back! Last night the latest episode of the Karl Stefanovic podcast dropped with an interview with Lambo Guy. It was hugely insightful and inspiring…no not really it was banal and dull. But what has come out of this whole saga of Karl being free and then not being is that Sara Arbo his co host on the Today show is now also out of a job having quit Nine. Could there be a new podcast on the horizon for the pair? Couldn’t be any worse than what Karl is currently dishing up.

News Corpse, sorry Corp, is like every other major company at the moment, its using Ai to cut back on staff, but while Murdoch is saying they’re not replacing real journalism with Ai the signs are already there for that exact thing to happen. Murdoch press has been using Ai to write some of its reports but with it being checked by actual humans. News Corp say it’s still totally dedicated to real journalism so why even go to Ai at all then? The next step is less journos, more Ai and an Ai algorithm that has the ability to manipulate information better than any Murdoch ever has. When you think about it though it’s actually the beginning of the end for real journalism and pretty dam evil.

And finally the AFR is reporting that a number of key lenders and financial institutions are suggesting the RBA has had enough of higher than expected inflation and are planning to go hard on rates. Some are suggesting three consecutive rate hikes by the RBA to fallen inflation once and for all. The direct impact on the economy will unquestionably be a recession which begs the question will it be another one we had to have? Jim Chalmers is apparently talking to colleagues in nervous tones as to what the economy is doing maybe because he’s think the same things? Regardless it’s time Labor stopped spending money everywhere and started focusing on bringing down inflation or One Nation will definitely form government in 2028.
