Today we ask how it took so long for the media, the right wing version of it to get hold of potential dirt on Victorian One Nation leader, Warren Pickering. A quick Google search will throw up all manner of accusations from an alleged ex partner of Pickering’s but it’s interesting to read where these accusations have come from, Murdoch. The Murdoch press has always been right wing, but to see the Australian go after Pickering the way it has suggests all is not well for Lachy and Jimmy when it comes to their support of right wing politics. One Nation isn’t that high on the Murdoch Christmas card list but that the Australian is going this hard on Pickering suggests bigger forces are in play.

Isn’t it funny how anyone that doesn’t agree with the left suddenly becomes a right wing extremist, surely not everyone that has issue with the left is an extremist? In Germany though it appears the so called right wing extremists are on the rise with the Alternative for Germany party winning a local election. You’d be forgiven for thinking that AFG party leader, Ulrich Siegmund is a card carrying member of the Nazi party, something he certainly is not. The Nazis were indeed right wing extremists but to suggest the AFG are akin to the Nazis seems, well a bit too extreme. Yes the AFG have some alternative policies but their basis is the same populist ideals getting traction throughout the world.

Back to One Nation and the parties suggestion of people being able to use 3% of their super for rent, mortgages, cost of living pressures etc…now the serious labor economists are saying this is a terrible idea. They say the money people take out of supper now will see them miss out on thousands of dollars in retirement. Ok that’s fair enough but doesn’t the government get their cut when we die or actually retire? Haven’t we got to the point where the actual debate around super is kind of irrelevant because people are sick and tired of the spin of politicians and are in urgent need of change. 

Say what you will about Jacinta Allan, but the woman did good when it came to doing a deal with the NFL. The amount of global media attention Melbourne is getting as a result of the 49ers v Rams game is off the charts and will undoubtedly see a significant increase in tourism. The odd things about the NFL trip is that it’s actually a Rams home game, but they don’t arrive until Thursday and leave the day after, with the 49ers being the team that’s done a tonne of media and appearances having arrived last week. It remains to be seen who has had the better strategy around arrival but regardless this is a global event and Jacinta did good. We should mention though that the good folk at the Australian don’t think it’s such a good thing and that the NFL is only serving its own purposes…isn’t it funny how the Murdochs don’t like anything they’re not making a dollar out of.
