Politicians are funny things aren’t they? Remember how keen they all were to have dictatorial press conferences of dread during Covid? We were all in that together apparently. How quick are they to assemble their hard hatted minions next to a building site to extol the virtues of their massive over spends on infrastructure projects? How proud of itself was the Victorian government to announce the latest chief commissioner of Victoria police, a New Zealand bloke, after they shafted the last one? How quick are they to tell us how important the transition to renewables is and that net zero is vital for the survival of humanity?

However, when it comes to standing up for the rights and civilities of the people they’re supposed to represent we don’t actually hear from them that much? I mean where was this New Zealand chief commissioner yesterday? While the premier of Victoria and prime minister did condemn the actions of the utter cowards who thought bombing and attacking Jewish places of worship and entertainment was a great idea there weren’t any press conferences, there weren’t any bells and whistles to make a stand, there weren’t hard hats nor was there a show of force to draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough…

Why was that? Why did we not see our elected representatives go harder on these abhorrent attacks? Now they’ll say they didn’t want to stir the pot and cause a wider escalation of violence when really we are passed all that and we are passed politicians forsaking victims of crime, violence and domestic terrorism for the sake of? You guessed it, votes and money!

Three seperate attacks on Jewish people, three seperate attacks of domestic terrorism and where was the Chief commissioner of Victoria police? Where was the Premier? Where was the PM? Yesterday there should’ve been a show of unequivocal solidarity, it was an opportunity for all sides of politics to come together and condemn these attacks and say enough is enough, instead it was more political rhetoric of nothingness…and that is not good enough!

Overnight and while the US celebrates Independence Day, Elon Musk made the point of suggesting the US needs a new political party to take back the chaos and nonsense from the current political parties. Musk is all manner of things and would have vested interests in seeing this new party come to fruition but he’s not wrong. The world is groaning from political incompetence found throughout the world and we in Australia are in desperate need of a new voice, but while that remains a distant possibility our little magazine called Hoodies is here to call out the utter bullshit and betrayals we as Australians are currently experiencing.

These are disturbing and shameful times and we have nothing to thank our elected representatives for when it comes to any of it! Maybe today they’ll grace us with their presence but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
